20 Dolla, Make you holla?

Hey BF's! It's been a few days and I've missed my blog, but I really needed to take some time off and focus on family a bit. Hope you understand. :-) Anyway, I'm back!

So you probably looked at the title my post and said, "What the heck?" Yep. I bet you did... It's not what you think... Get those minds out of the gutter! Haha...

Instead it's about how much money I plan on using at the grocery store this afternoon to feed my family for a week.

Mr. Sergeant and I were talking about how much money we spend on food and it's a lot. I was actually stunned to see how much we were spending in food over the course of a month. So I got to thinking what if I could feed our family on just $20 a week. Would that not be awesome?! It would be beyond awesome.

Now I'm sure someone else somewhere has probably done this and is still doing this perfectly, but I haven't. I've never been so nervous to take on such a challenge and I know just how creative I'm going to have to be especially with a 5 year old and a 2 year old to feed... I do however have the faith that this is something I can accomplish! Are you going to be rooting for me? I'll try to post what we eat everyday for the next week starting tomorrow.

OMG, I'm really doing this... Could you? Do you already? I'd like to hear what you think and if you are already living frugally, some advice would be stellar! Thanks!

Hope you're having a kick ass weekend!

xoxo,

WOW! I don't think I could do that. Especially because up here in Canada we don't have the big coupon deals you guys have. Good luck. Keep us updated.

I'm still trying to find a good budget amount for food, and it is just two of us. Only $20.00 a week is a dream for me. =)

I'm looking forward to seeing how you do this. My family is doing a no spend month for July and it's been going okay. It's harder than I thought it would be, but you become pretty savvy using the things you have when you can't spend any money.

Does your 20 dollars only cover food or do you have to get household items too? If you can just buy food with it I think you can do it. Just remember no name brands and lots of coupons.

I know of a lot of families that do this. I have a friend who spends about $100 a month on groceries and thats it. I have been reading the key is start stock piling things so you always have a good stash. But there a billion blogs and forums on this. When we move back to the states this is definitely something I will be trying. Its too hard here since the commissary never has sales and doesn't do double coupons or any of that fun stuff. (www.thefrugalreport.blogspot.com is my friends blog)

Love it! I was inspired by the new TLC show "Extreme Couponing"..paying $6 and some change on a six hundred dollar plus tab..sounded amazing and I really wish I could do this! I actually enlisted my hubby's help for our next shopping trip in two weeks to see how much we can cut our bill by..I haven't set a budget yet but under $20 really seems challenging to me but I will take up this challenge..we usually shop two weeks at a time so this would increase my budget to $40 which sounds a little better but we shall see. Definitely going to start cutting coupons next week and start reading up on coupon policies..I know some stores do store and manufacturer coupons and will scan a manufacturer coupon twice on some items..wishing both of us luck!! Fingers crossed!
