That guy kind of sorta knows his stuff. I didn't grow up with parents who taught me about money, so I kinda suck at it, neither did Mr. Sergeant, but he's better than I, but could also use a little work, so we're trying to figure this thing out together.
Cue Dave Ramsey...
Luckily we have the whole Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University because we were going to a weekly class at a church, but ended up not liking said church for reasons to be left unsaid and ran out screaming never wanting to return again. So that was that.
Now here I sit listening to this guy tell me all the wonderful things I should be doing whilst typing this post and wondering if we can do it. If we have what it takes to become debt free... completely.
It's a exciting & scary thought all at once.
I guess we'll have to give it a go and see what happens.
Wish us luck!

Dave Ramsey has a lot of good ideas. Some of them are a little backwards to me, but I wish you lots of luck!!! By the way, gave you an award. :)
Good luck!
You can do it!
My parents follow Dave Ramsey's plan to a t. My husband and I follow most things.
I would love to tell you how easy it is, but in all honesty....it's really hard at first. After a few months of practicing it does get easier. Your spending cravings lessen over time too! You'll know how to clearly distinguish what you want vs what you need. The biggest reward??? Having a zero balance for your credit cards, loans, car payment, or house note! Then you start putting the cash away and feeling great about having plenty of cusion!
You can totally do it!! My husband and I grew up not knowing how to handle money and it ended up putting us in major debt very young. Dave Ramsey really has helped our marriage in ways we never knew. We are working hard on our debt snowball, and because of an IA deployment coming up in a few weeks we will be able to have ALL our debt paid off! It's something I never thought possible even a year ago.
Best of luck to you and your husband!
Well, here is the good news. Coming to a tax exempt combat zone will put you on your way if you don't go bonkers with the spare income, lol. I paid my husbands $17000 Harley loan off in 5 months instead of 3 years. You will also qualify for the Deployment savings plan which is a high interest savings account that you can only pay into while in a combat zone that yields a ridiculously high interest rate. You won't be able to get the money til you leave. So you can put an allotment out of reach once your debt is gone. The good news is that it is a cash society, not so much with CC so you will be able to get the envelope thing down well. I have friends who have done the DR plan and swear it got them seriously out of debt. Good luck!! Can't wait to meet you!
I'm the coordinator for Financial Peace University at our church (having gone through the class last fall) and I love Dave Ramsey! We have learned so much to get us back on track. I think the best thing was the budget committee meeting concept - my husband left the finances to me (big mistake LOL) and now we are openly communicating and on the same page. Good luck!
I really enjoyed reading your blog - still haven't found out where the New Country is but I'll keep reading! Thanks for stopping by my blog.
